The Houhere tree is a small graceful tree, with beautiful white star shaped pure white flowers and spear shaped distinctively toothed margins. The inner bark separates into lace like layers, sometimes found washed up on beaches, which is then imprinted onto metal to form the base pattern for these earrings. Following imprinting the leaves are hand cut, filed, sanded, polished and the red oxide coating is applied.
