The silver beech, or Tawhai is found in both Islands and is often the dominant tree in South Island Beech forest. The leaves have a distinctive toothed margin, the outline of which reflects the shape of a whole tree, reminding us of nature's fractal patterning on different scales.
To make these earrings rata leaves are put through a rolling mill and each leaf is then hand cut. The leaves are then filed, sanded, polished and the red oxide coating is applied. Classic leaf shaped sterling hooks complete the look.
These earrings are printed from real leaves and thus are unique in shape and size - they range from 10-15mm in length.
